In an interview with Keren Hayesod-UIA, Prof. Irwin Cotler, international jurist and human rights advocate, from Montreal, spoke about the pervasive, virulent anti-Semitism that has become rampant in academia, among international bodies and on campuses worldwide. The Justice and Attorney General of Canada noted the attempt by international bodies former Minister of to portray Israel as “the secular anti-Christ” of our time - a meta-violator of human rights.

The persistent delegitimization of Israel by the UN - the “laundering of anti-Semitism” under the mask of universal values and the struggle against racism - is eroding that body’s authority, he said.  “Singling out the Jewish state for selective opprobrium undermines the integrity of the UN and gives exculpatory immunity to real human rights violators”.

As a step in combatting this situation, it is necessary to “reframe the assault against Israel in terms of human rights”, Prof. Cotler explained, noting that the obsessive attacks against Israel are an assault on universal human rights that demeans  the real struggle against racism.
