From the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

In June 2019, Keren Hayesod welcomed our 4th student delegation from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

The delegation was part of an ongoing project conceived by a Keren Hayesod donor to show students the Jewish homeland, its contributions to global Jewry and the world and its achievements in innovation and technology.

Together with our dedicated donor, Keren Hayesod has been working to bring this concept from idea to reality, and we are proud to have hosted our fourth mission as a part of this project.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is the primary academic partner of the program. Thirty outstanding students from science, management and advanced interdisciplinary programs were selected by the university to participate on the trip.

During their time in Israel, the students visited high tech companies and start-ups. They met with representatives at all levels, including management, and discussed the incredible advances being made in Israel. They also toured the north and south of the country while learning about Israel’s Jewish heritage and history.

The Israeli elements of technology, creativity, youthfulness and history were all part of the itinerary from the first day of the trip. On their first day, they got a piece of it all as they visited the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation, met with an Israeli developer creating an app that will help users to explore cities’ culinary scenes and toured the Bauhaus architecture of Tel Aviv.

The students also gained exposure to the complexity of living in a country with so many distinct peoples. Their tour of the Old City of Jerusalem provided them with a distinct example of the challenges and uniqueness of life in Israel.

The concept of bringing student delegations from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is already showing its strength with the high level of interest among students and the growing number of alumni from the program.
Two more delegations are expected to arrive this year.
