On Monday, 3 December, at the UIA’s Federal Annual General Meeting in Melbourne, our dear friend Jack Smorgon AO concluded his six-year term as Federal President and handed the reins over to Harold Finger OAM.  Both Jack and Harold are recipients of the Yakir Keren Hayesod Award, in 2007 and 2010, respectively.  The worldwide Keren Hayesod family is happy and proud to congratulate both of them.

Jack is also a member of the Keren Hayesod Executive and a former Chairman of the KH Projects Committee. World Chairman of Keren Hayesod-UIA, Eliezer (Moodi) Sandberg, who was present at the AGM, paid tribute to Jack’s devotion and dedication to the State of Israel and the Jewish people.  On behalf of Keren Hayesod, Mr. Sandberg presented him with a beautiful framed collection of KH posters, together with a certificate, as a small token of appreciation.

Prior to serving as Federal President, Jack was UIA Victorian Chairman for 12 years.  He has sat on many boards, among them the Montefiore Foundation, of which he served as Chairman, the Jack & Robert Smorgon Families Foundation, and the family company, Escor. He is Deputy Chairman of the Bionic Institute of Australia and Chairman of its Investment Sub-Committee.  In 2006, he retired from the International Board of the World Presidents Organisation after 10 years of service. He was previously Chairman of the Melbourne Chapter of the World Presidents Organisation and a board member of the Australia Day Committee (Victoria).

In addition, Jack is a member of the Board of Governors of the Jewish Agency for Israel, where he was appointed Chairman of the Partnership and Activism Committee, one of the organization’s major committees. He is currently in his third year as National Chairman the Defence Reserves Support Council, after serving as Deputy Chairman for five years.  Jack was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 1998 Australia Day Honours and in 2006 was elevated to an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).
