In Gratitude: Victor Jamri
Bogota, Colombia
2014 Yakir Keren Hayesod Award recipient

Victor Jamri has been consistently and totally involved in Jewish and Zionist causes since his youth, so it is hardly any wonder that, following in his father's footsteps, he has become one of Keren Hayesod Colombia's most dedicated and influential leaders.

After obtaining a degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in Indiana in the US, he came to Israel, where he studied Hebrew at ulpan and did scientific research at the Institute for Desert Research in Beersheva and at Haifa Chemicals Ltd.

In 1971, Victor returned to Colombia, and joined his father in the family-owned textile business. Two years later, he established the Poltex Textile Factory. He has served in positions of leadership at Keren Hayesod for decades, chairing the Colombia Campaign since 2007.

Victor has always attributed central importance to educational projects for those in need. He developed a special relationship with Compedia Israel, and every year donates a computer center to another disadvantaged locality in Israel's periphery. To date, there are eight, bringing hope and opportunity to children all over the country who need a helping hand.
Victor devotes special attention to Keren Hayesod Colombia’s flagship project, "Colombia House" at the Hadassah Neurim Youth Village, a facility that includes six virtual classrooms.

An involved member of Bogotá’s Sephardic community, Victor supports its activities and tirelessly promotes new ideas and initiatives to benefit others. At the same time, he gives generously to the general Colombian community, supporting numerous social and educational projects.
He and his wife, Henriette, have three children and eight grandchildren.
For his generosity, his commitment and his unwavering dedication to Israel and its people, Victor Jamri is a worthy recipient of the Yakir Keren Hayesod Award, which was presented to him this past June by the leadership of our organization, in a moving ceremony at Mizpeh Ramon (in the Negev).

Thanks again for all that you have achieved until now, dear Victor, and best wishes for many more years of good health and happiness with your loved ones, as well as continued activity on behalf of Israel and the Jewish people!
